Kanye West has expressed admiration for Anna Wintour after the long-serving Vogue editor announced her retirement from the magazine. Despite Vogue terminating their partnership with West in 2022 due to his controversial statements, he appears to still hold respect for Wintour, who is stepping down after 37 years. He shared a photo with Wintour at a fashion show on social media and wrote: ‘Thank you, Anna, for your support and friendship over the years [goat emoji].’ In 2022, Vogue had publicly stated that they would not collaborate with West again shortly after Wintour had been seen wearing Yeezy sunglasses. Wintour had also attempted to mediate between West and Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, a Vogue editor who criticized West for using the ‘white lives matter’ phrase in his clothing line, labeling it as ‘pure violence.’ West reacted to Karefa-Johnson’s critique by ridiculing her fashion credibility. Afterward, Wintour organized a meeting between West and Karefa-Johnson, which West shared on social media. He emphatically wrote: ‘GAB IS MY SISTER, AND I WILL NOT ALLOW PEOPLE TO THINK I DID NOT MEET WITH GABRIELLE TODAY FOR TWO HOURS BEFORE WE HAD DINNER.’ He added that their meeting was a moment of understanding as both have faced challenges in seeking acceptance in a world that is often unwelcoming. Vogue subsequently supported Karefa-Johnson, stating, ‘Vogue stands with Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, our global fashion editor at large. She was personally targeted and bullied. It is unacceptable. Voices like hers are vital, and she articulated her truth in a private session with Ye on her terms.’
